Alisa Weilerstein returns to the ASO this weekend packing Osvaldo Golijovs Azul, a concerto for cello and orchestra which she has made her own since 2007. One of the foremost cellists of our time, Weilerstein is an audience favorite; this time bringing a composition from another ASO favorite, Osvaldo Golijov. Conductor James Gaffigan returns to lead the Orchestra in a program of dance music. Rameaus suite from his imaginative ballet Les indes galantes; Adams seductive foxtrot between Chairman Mao and his bride, the famous Madame Mao (written as an exercise that would later become the opera Nixon in China); and Ravels magical ballet Mother Goose.
